Mark J. Weiner, MD, is a Board Certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship trained corneal surgeon with over 20 years experience performing eye surgery.
Dr. Weiner received his Bachelor of Science degree, Summa Cum Laude, with distinction in chemistry, from Yale College, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School. After completing an ophthalmology residency at Washington University in St. Louis, he returned to Boston to continue his training through two fellowships. At the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, he completed advanced training in corneal surgery, and at the Children's Hospital of Boston, he focused on genetics, studying the molecular cause of aniridia, an inherited and potentially blinding eye disorder. Subsequently, he became a member of the faculty of Harvard Medical School and served on the staff of both the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Weiner has been a surgeon at InView since its inception in 1994. He has extensive experience in a variety of refractive surgical techniques including LASIK, LASEK, PRK, LTK, and RK, having performed several thousand refractive surgeries, including over 2,000 LASIK procedures. As an Attending Surgeon at InView, he utilizes the latest techniques and technology in this rapidly expanding field. Dr. Weiner has dedicated himself to providing premier patient care. "I carefully tailor all ophthalmic treatments to the individual needs of the patient. I think that it is important to develop a relationship as the patient's doctor, not just as a technician."
His knowledge of the field is well proven by the more than 20 papers, publications, and articles he has authored and conferences he has directed and lectured. Dr. Weiner is active in many professional societies. He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was the recipient of the Physician/Scientist and National Research Service Awards from the National Institutes of Health and the prestigious Heed, Heed/Knapp, and National Society to Prevent Blindness fellowship and research awards.
Dr. Weiner came to Atlanta in 1990 and opened Weiner Eye Center in Cherokee County. For his generous contributions to the community, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce named Weiner Eye Center the Cherokee County Small Business of the Month for December 2002. When not serving patients, he finds time to spend with his two sons and his wife, Nancy Canter Weiner, MD, who is a neuro-ophthalmologist at Piedmont Hospital. They enjoy traveling, sports, and spending time together as a family.
