Dr. Spindel completed his B.S. undergraduate education at Georgia State College and earned a second B.S. degree in Physiological Optics as well as his O.D. Degree from the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He was admitted to the American Academy of Optometry as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1978. Dr. Spindel has worked in the field of Optometry for over 30 years in his own private practice and in various leadership roles within the industry before joining InView in 2007.
He has been involved in numerous FDA clinical trials related to contact lenses, contact lens solutions, spectacle lens designs and LASIK throughout his career. Some of these include the FDA Phase I Study for the BiSoft Bi-Focal Soft Contact Lenses from CIBA Vision in 1979, FDA Phases II and III for the Bausch and Lomb Hyperopic Corrective Lenses in 1977, FDA Phases II and III for the Hydrocurve Soft Lens Toric Study, and FDA Phases II and III of the Alcon Non-Preserved Saline Solution Study for soft contact lenses solutions in the 1980’s. Dr. Spindel served as an Advisor to the Clinical Director for the Florida School of Optometry and was charter member of the Contact Lens Section of the American Academy of Optometry. He assisted with the initial design of the Optically Folded Examination Room and played an integral roll in testing of the Zero Dispersion Screen Refracting System.
Dr. Spindel is a Mason, a Shriner, is in the Lions club, The American Legion and VFW. He works with the Shrine Burn Crippled Children’s Hospitals, and the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital. From 1968-71, he served the US Army as the Detachment “C” Commander and Platoon Leader in Southeast Asia. He was also an instructor in the Combined Arms Division of the Military Police School in Fort Gordon, Georgia where he taught in the Advanced Courses. He was also a member of Presidents 100 Military Rifle Team.
Dr. Spindel interned in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Center For Developmental and Learning Disorders, The Diabetes Hospital in Birmingham, VA Hospital, and with the Atlanta Area Services for the Blind. He has been given many Recognition Awards from the Lions Club for work with indigent patients.
Dr. Spindel is married to Sherry, a Real Estate Broker. They have 2 daughters, Geri, a Family Law Attorney, and Jennifer, who also works in a legal office. Dr. Spindel is an avid Atlanta Braves fan and Falcons Fan. |
