Began participating in the Focus On Independence Program. Implemented use of the optomap® retinal imaging device. |
2006
AcuFocus, a new treatment for Presbyopia, is introduced. Acquired VISX laser with IK technology. Hyperopia approval from FDA. |
2005
InView provides Epi-LASIK and is one of 5 sites for Hyperopia Study FDA approval of Intraocular Lens Implants. |
2004
InView releases 5-year follow-up LASIK results. Findings show
that 94% of patients would have the surgery again which reflects
the high overall satisfaction of patients five years postoperatively. |

The practice changes its name to InView. |
2002
InterWave ® 12 Month outcomes
show a nearly 50% reduction in the incidence of glare and halos
following LASIK surgery. |

Keith Thompson, MD launches the InterWave ® Visualizer, which allows patients to see what
their vision may be like following LASIK, based on their unique
InterWave ® measurements. |

InView* Surgeon, Keith Thompson, MD launches InterWave ® Technology, the most comprehensive
optical measurement tool in the industry, allowing the practice
to provide custom LASIK treatment plans which results in sharper,
clear vision. |

Keith Thompson, MD and George Waring, MD* begin investigational
studies of laser thermal keratoplasty (LTK) as well as clinical
trials for the specialty resolved refractometer (SRR). |

George Waring, MD begins clinical trials of phakic intraocular
lenses of two different designs by two different manufacturers. |
1995
Keith Thompson, MD and George Waring, MD are authorized by the FDA to carry out a clinical trial of laser in-situ keratomileusis
( LASIK ) for myopia . The center is the only center in the Southeast with a physician-sponsored
Investigational Device Exemption to perform LASIK. |
1994
InView Surgeons*, Keith Thompson, MD and George Waring, MD,
establish the nation's first large, cooperative group practice
in vision correction surgery in collaboration with leading community
Ophthalmologists and Optometrists |
1992-94
Advanced new vision correction surgical procedures, including
LASIK, are studied internationally. |

InView founding surgeon, George Waring, MD, performs the first
excimer laser vision correction surgery in Atlanta. |
1988
Laboratory research with the excimer laser begins led by InView
founders, Keith Thompson, MD and George Waring, MD. |
1984
A corneal research laboratory is established to study new methods
of vision correction surgery, computerized corneal mapping,
intracorneal lenses, and artificial corneal surfaces. |
1981
Emory Surgeons, now practicing at InView*, Keith Thompson, MD
and George Waring, MD, develop one of the largest corneal transplant
services in the United States, with an emphasis on vision correction
results. |
1980
George Waring, MD is selected by the US Federal Government's
National Eye Institute to direct the Prospective Evaluation
of Radial Keratotomy (PERK) study, the largest and most comprehensive
clinical investigation of radial keratotomy. |
