CustomCornea® Frequently Asked Questions
A new laser vision correction procedure.
rule

What is CustomCornea©?

rule

CustomCornea® is a new laser vision correction procedure that's capable of addressing both the familiar refractive vision problem, nearsightedness, as well as a range of visual distortions called higher order aberrations. Through a completely customized approach, using data collected directly from your eye to drive the procedure, the procedure aims to improve both visual acuity and visual quality.

What is the difference between CustomCornea® and conventional LASIK (or LASIK without CustomCornea®)?

rule

While traditional laser vision correction can help with familiar refractive vision problems, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, CustomCornea® can go further and help with a range of visual problems that were not able to be measured before. The goal of traditional laser vision correction procedures is to improve visual acuity. With CustomCornea® the goal is to improve both your visual acuity and visual quality.

How will I know if I should have CustomCornea® instead of another form of vision correction surgery?

rule

This determination will be made by your surgeon, based on your comprehensive pre-operative examination that includes InterWave® and CustomCornea® measurements. The wavefront mapping plots the errors in your entire optical system by passing a narrow ray of light through the optical system and measuring the optical distortion as the light exits the eye. These patterns are then compared to a flat wavefront map. In CustomCornea® with the LADARVision® System these maps are used to guide your doctor's surgical planning, and the laser during treatments.
